It’s not every day you encounter a wedding story like Brooke and Raoul’s. It’s funny how sometimes you can be in the right place, at the right time, finding yourself in the right room with the right people. They’re a Bay Area couple that met and developed their relationship in true San Francisco fashion. Here is their story…
Rained Out, An Opportunity for Love
Brooke and Raoul both took trips to Scottsdale, Arizona to cheer on their favorite team, the San Francisco Giants. Neither realized that this trip would lead them on a journey full of travel, love, and a new brightness in life. The day they were to attend the Giants/Dodgers game they had tickets for, a huge rain and hail storm took over Scottsdale. I know, who would have thought? Both groups, disappointed and soaked, ended up at a bar called R&R. Turns out, when you put two people with a spark like Brooke and Raoul together, that’s all it takes for them to bond and feel the beginnings of a new love.
First Stop San Francisco, Next Stop Puerto Rico
After returning to San Francisco two weeks later, the couple went on their first official date at Nopa in the city. They were inseparable. After just a month of dating, Raoul invited Brooke to join him on a work trip to Puerto Rico, which was the first of many trips together. This set the stage for their relationship. Brooke and Raoul spent the next year traveling together to New York, Tahoe, Maui, Mexico, and Italy, getting to know each other and their family and friends.
On One Knee in Front of Coit Tower
When you know, you just know. On their 1-year anniversary, Raoul had something special in store for Brooke. He took her to visit Coit Tower, a place she had never been, and as the sun set he got down on one knee and proposed. Of course she said yes! Following the proposal, Brooke and Raoul celebrated with champagne and dinner with Brooke’s parents. The festivities continued with a celebratory family brunch the morning after, all coordinated by Raoul.
The Big Day
Brooke prepared for her big day with the help of her bridesmaids and trusty stylists. Her hair, done by Renee Rodriguez, was kept long and curled and her makeup by Racine Christensen, was the perfect combination of natural/made up. Brooke’s whole look along with her beautiful Amy Kushel wedding dress was classy and fun.
A Diablo Country Club Wedding
The wedding took place at the Diablo Country Club, a beautiful location for their outdoor ceremony under the oak trees. With the view of Mount Diablo in the background, it set the stage for a romantic day full of love and support from family and friends.
When the time came, Brooke walked down the aisle carrying her pink and white bouquet by Megan Haney Designs. All eyes were on her. She looked stunning and smiled from ear to ear. As officiant Ryan Lincks guided them through the ceremony, you could feel the excitement. After they said “I Do,” Brooke and Raoul kissed along with a cheering crowd toasting with champagne.
Celebrate with Cocktails and Impressive Dancing
Following the ceremony, the wedding was transported to phase two by the help of Black Tie Transportation. It was time to celebrate! Guests were served mini dirty martinis (Brooke's drink) and Corpse Revivers (Raoul's drink).
Instead of the usual white-layered cake, Brooke and Raoul chose a more modern approach. They opted for cupcakes provided by Kara’s Cupcakes! Just like the night they met, the newlyweds’ first married drink together was a shot of tequila. Back in San Francisco, the Giants were playing a nail-biting game that went into overtime. All throughout the night, the scores were called out. It seemed that there were more than one thing to cheer about that night!
As the evening progressed, the party danced to music by DJ Brian Fitzsimmons. Though there were a lot of impressive moves, including the bridesmaids’ and friends’ dance to Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off," my personal favorite was noticing the love shared between Brooke and her dad. They seemed to have such a strong emotional connection and I feel it over and over again every time I go through their images.
Brooke and Raoul’s wedding was full of laughter and sweet love and could not have been accomplished without the great work by Day of Designs wedding coordinators.
Also, a big thanks to my team for the day: Nicole Cross and Kevin Walters.
